Paul Schatz: "The World Is Invertible - Rhythm Research and Technology"

(available only in German)

Paul Schatz has become known by his "Turbula", the "Invertible Cube", and the "Oloid" among experts and the greater public alike. His inventions are based on highly significant principles of spatial geometry discovered or re-discovered by him. Out of a living and "flowing geometry" (R. Steiner), Paul Schatz managed to develop the first elements of a new and ecological type of mechanical engineering.

"The first polysomatic forms - among others the cuboid, the inverted hall, and the Oloid - are presented as elements of a novel approach to mechanical engineering. For the new discoveries and concepts of geometric movement led to an expansion of the basic elements of kinematics and from there to new technical creations which are no longer destroying nature but submit to its laws." (Paul Schatz)

Paul Schatz: "Technology and Design"

Collected Works
(available only in German)

The present series of papers from the 1930s and 1960s present an independent and original struggle between the two opposite disciplines of human activities. In his times, Paul Schatz was a lonely warner against the destruction of the environment and promoter of man's responsibility in dealing with our planet. Here, a Swiss pioneer of environmental engineering has his say who was prompted by the threat of radioactivity, DDT, and water pollution to ask for the ethical principles of engineering and technology that, ultimately, can only ever be based on a continued development of the social sciences and humanities.

Paul Schatz: «Research of Rhythm and Technology»
Hardcover, in German, 3rd expanded edition, 2008, over 200 pages, over 200 illustrations

The standard work of 1975 by Paul Schatz, now in a third, expanded edition (Niggli Verlag, 2008).
This book is of essential importance to all those interested in learning more about the intellectual cosmos of the sculptor-inventor Paul Schatz. Offering a detailed account of the invention of the Invertible Cube, the Oloid and other creations, the book explains the correlations on which the inversion is based, and presents the rich variety of polysomatic solids derived from his exploration of spatial geometry. The book further includes descriptions of the mechanical-engineering elements based on Schatz’ discoveries, such as the Turbula and Inversina, or the more recent Oloid technology increasingly deployed in the field of water treatment.

«Technology and the Human Sciences»
Hardcover, in German, 1st edition, 2008

a series of essays from the 1930s and ’60s conveys the struggle between the two opposing disciplines of human endeavour. At the time of writing, Paul Schatz was isolated in his criticism of environmental destruction and his calls for humankind to remember its responsibility for the planet. These are essays from the pen of a Swiss pioneer of environmental technology who, aware of the threats posed by radioactivity, DDT and water pollution, began to search for ethical technological principles ultimately able to be established only through further development of the humane scientific disciplines.
